Estambul, Turkia 2009

El Tribunal Latinoamericano del Agua y la Fundación Heinrich Böll apoyaron la realización de una audiencia pública que se encargó de analizar controversias hídricas de Turquía y Latinoamérica. Este fue un tribunal ad hoc cuyo jurado estubo integrado por reconocidas personalidades internacionales, expertos en el tema.

El Tribunal del Agua de Estambul funcionó una plataforma de justicia alternativa cuyo propósito fue propiciar el diálogo y la búsqueda de soluciones a las diferentes problemáticas hídricas seleccionadas. La actividad se desarrolló del 10 al 14 de marzo en el Salón de exhibiciones y centro de actividades interculturales Tetun Deposu el cual se encuentra localizado en la ciudad de Estambul.

Recommendations to the Government of Turkey

Having reviewed the cases of Ilsu (Hasankeyf), Yusufeli and Konaktepe, pertaining to the
construction of dams and hydroelectric power plants along the river valleys of Dicle,
Çoruh and Munzur in Turkey, and having observed several common patterns in all three
projects, the jury of the Water Tribunal in Istanbul has felt compelled to issue
recommendations to the Government of Turkey regarding its policies on the protection
and management of water resources, on the preservation of natural and cultural heritage
and on energy.
